A poem for my parents on their wedding anniversary.

The waves of time crash onto the shores of memory

The tide is returning our love in longevity

Yellow roses on the table and a simple bowl of soup

Sixty plus years of memories play back in an endless loop

Age is a gift not everyone receives

To look across the table and see you

still looking back at me

We still dream of the future and remanence of the past

Our love has planted seeds

Producing a harvest of deeds

A legacy that will last

A vision has been cast

Like a fishing lure into some distant sea

The hope of generations to be

remains to be seen

But will be revealed at dawn

like the warm heavenly beams

As the waves of time crash onto the shores of memory

The tide is returning our love in longevity

We walk along this shore, although we are young no more

But in this moment a new season is born

“I love you.” You say

in your own way

And our love is enough to get us through this day

Indeed, love will sustain us in the years that remain

Until that tide takes us forever

out to that celestial sea

And the waves of time cease to crash

onto the shores of memory

But today, the tide remains. Returning our love in longevity.
